The UAB Marnix E. Heersink School of Medicine is pleased to announce the newest cohort of James A. Pittman Jr., M.D., Scholars.
The Pittman Scholars program, named after longtime School of Medicine Dean James A. Pittman, Jr., M.D, recognizes the impacts of junior faculty and supports the recruitment and retention of highly competitive scientists and physician-scientists. Pittman is considered a principal architect of the school for his ability to recruit top scientists and physicians to UAB.
Awardees are full time assistant professors within the first five years of their initial appointment at this rank. They are nominated by their department chairs based on their research achievements and discoveries, and nominations are reviewed by an advisory committee. Scholars receive $12,500 of funding each year for the next three years to support the research related activities or scholarly enrichment of the faculty member.
