As the UAB Heersink School of Medicine advances and grows as a national leader of excellence and research, UAB campus prepares for the new Altec Styslinger Genomic Medicine and Data Sciences Building by renovating the decades-old LHRB.

Dawn Bulgarella, chief financial officer of the UAB Health System, has been selected to Leadership Alabama’s Class XXXI for the year 2021-2022.

In partnership with HSF and the UAB Health System, the School of Medicine is pleased to announce UAB’s inaugural Momentum Executive Leadership Program pilot. Momentum’s Executive Leadership Program is a competitive nine month program for women that provides workshops, mentoring, and networking opportunities for senior leaders.

From serving at food banks and working with the homeless population to hosting charity dinners and organizing fundraisers, Holly Chandash, office associate in the Department of Anesthesiology, has worked with over ten organizations across the Magic City.

Vu Nguyen, M.D., MBA, has been named chair of the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at the School of Medicine.

On Monday, Aug. 23, Jeanne Marrazzo, M.D., director of the Division of Infectious Diseases, and Paul Goepfert, M.D., director of the Alabama Vaccine Research Clinic, gave an update of current COVID-19 news and answered questions live from the community and media.

Tyler Gaston, M.D., assistant professor in the Department of Neurology, found a meaningful way to give back to her patients during the COVID-19 pandemic by joining the Alabama Professional Advisory Board for the Epilepsy Foundation.

Doug Bentley, MPH, is the new director of Research Administration, Shared Services, in the School of Medicine. Bentley aims to accelerate research endeavors and funding across the school by assisting investigative teams with the administrative portion of grant submissions.
