At UAB, our motto has always been “work hard, play hard.” Our residents not only choose our program for great training opportunities, but also for the strong sense of camaraderie among the residents. We always look for an excuse to get together for a happy hour, class dinner, post-nights brunch or group workout! We also have several annual events for the entire department, including Intern Party, Resident Retreat, Holiday Party, Pre-Chiefs, and Chiefs Party. For our time outside of the hospital, Birmingham is an incredible place to live. Our resident foodies rave about our restaurant scene as we are home to multiple James Beard award-winning restaurants. We have an ever-growing number of craft breweries and distilleries. Alabama is also home to several beautiful lakes and state parks for exploring the outdoors – many within our city or less than a one-hour drive away. If you’re looking for a weekend away, we have a very convenient international airport. Birmingham is also centrally located to several major cities including Atlanta, Nashville, Chattanooga and the famed white sand beaches of southern Alabama. |
