This transition marks an exciting new chapter for this division, and we are thrilled to see Dr. Subramaniam take on this pivotal leadership role.

Subramaniam has already made significant contributions within the department, particularly during her time serving as Interim Division Director following the departure of Brian Casey, M.D. to West Virginia University. Her leadership during this period has been instrumental in guiding the division through this transition.

Dr. Subramaniam's academic and professional background is nothing short of remarkable. A native of Metairie, Louisiana, she earned her Bachelor of Science from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 2004 and pursued post-graduate work in Social Policy at the London School of Economics and Political Science in 2003. Her pursuit of excellence continued with her Doctor of Medicine and Master of Public Health degrees from Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center in New Orleans in 2008. She completed her residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at UAB in 2012, followed by a combined fellowship in Maternal Fetal Medicine and Medical Genetics at UAB in 2016. She is presently an Associate Professor with Tenure and holds the Bruce Harris, Jr., MD, Endowed Professorship in Obstetrics/Gynecology.

Dr. Subramaniam's career is distinguished by her exceptional work both as a clinician and a scientist. She has earned numerous awards for her contributions to Women’s Health, particularly in Maternal and Fetal Medicine. She is the PI on two R01 grants from the NIH/NICHD as well as a multi-PI on a Gates Foundation grant. She has over 110 peer-reviewed publications in numerous high-impact journals. She serves on the editorial board for Obstetrics & Gynecology and the board of directors of the American Board of Medical Genetics and Genomics (ABMGG). She also oversees the UAB OB/GYN Research and Diagnostic Laboratory.

In addition to her clinical and research accomplishments, Dr. Subramaniam has made very significant contributions in education and training within the UAB Department of OB/GYN. She currently serves as the Vice Chair of Education and Fellowship Program Director for Maternal-Fetal Medicine. She previously served as the interim Program Director for the UAB OB/GYN residency program.

Her leadership will undoubtedly propel the division forward, enhancing our pursuit of the tripartite mission of research, education, and patient care. We are confident that her vision and dedication will further elevate an internationally renowned division and contribute to its continued success.
