Medical students
The UAB Department of Otolaryngology is passionate about mentoring and training medical students to become the next generation of otolaryngologists. We welcome fourth-year UAB and visiting medical students and offer a unique opportunity to interview with our faculty during your four-week visit. Clerkships are available through the Department of Surgery. Other electives are available for third-year medical students as well.
Residency program
Our otolaryngology program is ranked in the top 25 in the nation by U.S. News and World Report. Residents who complete their training at UAB will have had extensive surgical, clinical, and academic training in every aspect of otolaryngology-head and neck surgery. In fact, our residents graduate with some of the highest case volumes and case numbers in the nation. Our program provides excellent education in patient care and research. Graduates will be comfortable and competent in independently performing the duties of excellent otolaryngologists in private practice or continuing on to fellowship programs. For the past ten years, we have had a 100 percent fellowship match rate.
Fellowship programs
The UAB Department of Otolaryngology currently offers three fellowship programs including a Head and Neck Oncologic and Reconstructive Surgery Fellowship Program through the AHNS (American Head and Neck Society), a Laryngology Fellowship Program through the NRMP Match, and a Clinical Speech Language Pathology Fellowship through Dr. Edie Hapner and the UAB Voice Center.
