Carissa Thomas, M.D., Ph.D., assistant professor in the Department of Otolaryngology, has been named a fellow of the American College of Surgeons (ACS).

Thomas has earned the distinguished right to use the designation of “FACS” (Fellow, American College of Surgeons) after her name. It indicates her education and training, professional qualifications, surgical competence, and ethical conduct have passed a rigorous evaluation, and have been found to be consistent with the high standards established and demanded by the College.

Dr. Thomas joined the Department of Otolaryngology as an assistant professor in 2019 after completing her residency at the University of Colorado School of Medicine and fellowship at the University of Toronto. She has a strong interest in head and neck oncology and microvascular reconstruction.

The American College of Surgeons is a scientific and educational organization of surgeons that was founded in 1913 to raise the standards of surgical practice and to improve the quality of care for the surgical patient.
