The UAB Lung Health Center maintains three separate databases containing clinical information on patients interested in participating in research studies (COPD, Asthma, and smokers without COPD). All databases are HIPPA-compliant-and-approved and are monitored by the UAB Institutional Review Board. Trial participants are recruited through community and study specific advertisements, as well as through referrals from local physicians. Participants are called annually to update information and ensure their agreement for continued participation.

Participants registered in the databases receive quarterly newsletters from the Lung Health Center which contain information on research studies as well as information about pulmonary diseases and conditions for patients.
