The Breast Imaging Division at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) is a paragon of excellence in healthcare. The section is dedicated to providing comprehensive breast imaging services. We perform 2D and 3D mammography, contrast enhanced mammography, diagnostic breast ultrasound, ductography and breast MRI. Additionally we perform image guided biopsies and preoperative localizations with mammographic, sonographic, CEM and MRI guidance. We are an ACR Designated Comprehensive Breast Imaging Center, earning accreditation in all imaging modalities.

Moreover, the division places a strong emphasis on education. We offer two breast imaging fellowship positions per year and provide one-on-one teaching with hands-on ultrasound and biopsy experience. Our clinical volume provides trainees with a wide variety of diagnostic cases and procedures. We perform over 69,000 exams annually with over 40,000 screening mammograms, 15,000 diagnostic mammograms, 6,500 breast ultrasound exams, 3,400 biopsies and 3,500 breast MRI exams.

In addition to our clinical expertise, the Breast Imaging Division at UAB is at the forefront of innovation in research. This affords our residents and fellows, as well as medical students, the unique opportunity to actively participate in groundbreaking studies and projects. The commitment to research serves as a cornerstone of our academic program, cultivating a dynamic and forward-thinking environment that prepares our trainees for the challenges and opportunities in the ever-evolving landscape of breast imaging.
