Opportunities for research abound at UAB. Clinical and laboratory research is conducted by many of the faculty of the department. Resident involvement in some type of scholarly activity is required of all residents nationally and many of our residents participate in hypothesis-driven research and publish manuscripts in major journals while others present papers and posters at national meetings. We are fortunate to have PhD researchers, computer programmers, research assistants, a statistician, and a research nurse provide support to resident, fellow, and faculty research. Efforts are made to support specific research interests of the residents and fellows.
The READY event (Resident Research, Education, and Appreciation Day) honors resident research and the many contributions our residents and fellows make to our department. The READY event includes lunch, a Grand Rounds presentation, resident research oral presentations, and resident clinical service awards, special awards, and the over all research presentation award.
