Elainea N. Smith, M.D. completed her undergraduate degree at Colorado College and medical school at LSU Health Sciences Center in Shreveport, Louisiana. She then completed her residency training in Diagnostic Radiology at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB), during which she acted as Chief Resident during her final year. She completed her accelerated fellowship in Abdominal Imaging at the University of Alabama at Birmingham prior to joining the faculty at UAB.

Clinically, she practices a full spectrum of abdominal imaging including fluoroscopy, CT, MR, US, and non-vascular procedures. Her areas of interest include hepatobiliary imaging, most specifically diffuse liver disease, and medical student outreach in order to recruit more applicants into the field of radiology. She serves on the Society of Abdominal Radiology Li-Rads Post Treatment Response Working Group, Diffuse Liver Disease Focused Panel, and Early Career Committee.
