More than 1,200 interns, residents and fellows train in every medical specialty at UAB in Birmingham, at our regional campuses in Montgomery, Huntsville and Tuscaloosa, and in our program in Selma.
In an ongoing series, the Department of Surgery will feature incoming and outgoing trainees for all UAB Surgery programs. This week, learn about those joining and leaving the Vascular Surgery Integrated Residency Program and the Vascular Surgery Fellowship.
Incoming Trainees
This year, the UAB Vascular Integrated Residency Program welcomes one new categorical intern from Virginia, Juliet Blakeslee-Carter, M.D. Blakeslee-Carter joins UAB from Eastern Virginia Medical School in Norfolk.

The Vascular Surgery Fellowship Program also welcomes its newest fellow, William Foster Gaillard Jr., M.D. Gaillard completed his general surgery residency this summer at the University of Florida Shands Hospital in Gainesville before joining UAB as a vascular surgery fellow.

Outgoing Trainees
This year, the Vascular Surgery Integrated Residency Program sees its third graduate after its creation in 2010, Ryan Abdul-Haqq, M.D., who has left UAB for private practice at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, California.
Meanwhile, Gregory Nissen, M.D., graduates from the Vascular Surgery Fellowship Program to join Sanford Health in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
