More than 1,200 interns, residents and fellows train in every medical specialty at UAB in Birmingham, at our regional campuses in Montgomery, Huntsville and Tuscaloosa, and in our program in Selma. In an ongoing series, the Department of Surgery will feature incoming and outgoing trainees for all UAB Surgery programs. This week, learn about the Pediatric Surgery Fellowship, Pediatric Surgery Research Fellowship and Pediatric Endoscopic Surgery Fellowship.

This year, the UAB Department of Surgery’s Pediatric Surgery Fellowship welcomes Stewart Carter, M.D., who joins UAB from Loyola University Medical Center in Chicago, where he completed his general surgery residency, as well as research fellow Alicia Waters, M.D., who completed her general surgery training and obtained her medical degree at UAB. Waters will serve as the Pediatric Surgery Fellowship’s incoming fellow in 2019 after she completes her research fellowship.

The Division of Pediatric Surgery also sees Chinwendu Onwubiko, M.D., leave its research fellowship to begin its Pediatric Endoscopic Surgery Fellowship in 2018. Onwubiko completed her medical degree and her general surgery residency training at the University of Mississippi.

The Pediatric Surgery Fellowship’s outgoing fellow, Andrei Radulescu, M.D., leaves the Pediatric Surgery Fellowship program to work as an attending at Loma Linda University in California, while the Pediatric Endoscopic Surgery Fellowship’s outgoing fellow, Tal Koppelmann, M.D., leaves UAB to work in Haifa, Israel as an attending at the Technion, part of the Israel Institute of Technology.
