The Department of Surgery’s Britney Corey, M.D., and Jared White, M.D., each recently authored op-eds for “The Academic Surgeon,” the Association of Academic Surgery blog.
Corey’s piece, “Infertility and the Female Surgeon,” discusses the challenges she faced while working in the surgical field and trying to conceive, as well as the benefits her career as a surgeon provided as she faced infertility, such as financial security and emotional support from her colleagues.
In his post, “Ethical Dilemmas and Organ Transplantation,” White analyzes the role of geographic disparity in the transplant field and argues that transplant surgeons now face an ethical dilemma as the relationship between organ supply and demand becomes increasingly disconnected.
The AAS blog provides students, residents, fellows and faculty members with an outlet through which they have the opportunity to discuss issues relevant to academic surgery.
