Jordan was appointed chief of vascular surgery at UAB in 1996 and now serves as a professor of surgery and chief of the Division of Vascular Surgery and Endovascular Therapy at Emory University. Pearce trained under Jordan in the UAB Vascular Surgery Fellowship from 2007-2009 and then returned to join the faculty as one of Jordan's partners in 2013.

"The name ‘William Daniel Jordan Jr.’ is synonymous with UAB Vascular,” Pearce said. “As the founder of the UAB Vascular Surgery Fellowship program and the UAB Integrated Vascular Surgery Residency, Dr. Jordan worked tirelessly to put together a clinical practice and training program that is unrivaled.”

The new professorship includes funding that can be used to support Pearce’s academic mission, as well as his efforts as the current director of both the UAB Integrated Vascular Surgery Residency and Fellowship.

“As one of Dr. Jordan’s trainees, former partners and friends, I hold this as the highest honor – to have my name linked with his in UAB history,” Pearce said. “I am truly humbled to represent the Jordan name and the UAB vascular training programs in this professorship.”

Pearce also attributed much of his success to his family, trainees and coworkers.

“Much like Dr. Jordan, I would be remiss if I didn’t mention that I could not have achieved any honor without the dedication of my wife and son; our trainees and alumni; my current and former partners; Sherry Evans, our program coordinator; Jennifer Cross, our OR team leader; our NP/PAs and the OR team,” he said.

Pearce will be recognized at the UAB School of Medicine Endowed Chairs and Professorships Reception in the spring.
