The Division of Acute Care Surgery’s Kimberly Hendershot, M.D., FACS, was recently appointed the chair of the American College of Surgeons Alabama Committee on Trauma.

As chair, Hendershot will be the sole appointing authority on the committee and may add/remove members as needed. She will also have a seat on the Executive Committee of the ACS Alabama Chapter alongside newly elected treasurer Jamie Cannon, M.D., FACS, FASCRS.

“This is an exciting time to be named the state COT chair and help shape the future of trauma care in Alabama,” Hendershot said. “I am grateful for the opportunity to serve in this capacity.”

According to the American College of Surgeons, the mission of the Committee on Trauma is to support injury prevention and improve patient outcomes by developing and putting into practice programs that focus on advocacy, education, best practices, patient outcomes, quality of care and trauma center and trauma system resources.
