The Division of Pediatric Surgery’s Colin Martin, M.D., has been named the recipient of the Society for Surgery of the Alimentary Tract’s 2019 Karen and Josef E. Fischer International Traveling Fellowship Award for Surgeons in Academic Practice.

With this fellowship, Martin will have the opportunity to travel internationally in order to visit academic gastrointestinal surgical units at various institutions throughout the world. While abroad, he will observe procedures in the operating room, accompany host faculty during rounds and in clinic and participate in relevant research, service and teaching conferences at these institutions.

Martin will receive a stipend of $5,000 to support his travel costs and is also invited to attend the 60th SSAT Annual Meeting in San Diego, California, May 18-21, where he will be introduced to the SSAT membership at the SSAT and Foundation Awards Ceremony.

The goal of this fellowship is to promote interaction and learning among SSAT members in academic practice environments and gastrointestinal surgeons in academic practice in other countries.
