The Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery’s Sara J. Pereira, M.D., was recently selected to attend the Division of Education of the American College of Surgeons’ 2019 course, “ACS Surgeons as Leaders: From Operating Room to Boardroom,” in Durham, North Carolina, April 28 – May 1.
This three-day course was created to provide surgeons who are currently in leadership roles, or who aspire to be in leadership roles, with an understanding of all the various levels of leadership within an organization. The course program includes lectures, interactive forums and case-based strategies for practicing surgeons who hope to hone their skills and learn more about how to lead effectively within their surgical communities.
According to the ACS Division of Education, this course will focus on difficult leadership issues – such as navigating the operational and human aspects of change, cultivating commitment to a shared vision and goals, building teams and developing strategies for leading up, down and across the institutional environment – and will help participants recognize and cultivate the attributes of leadership they already possess.
