Associate Professor of Surgery Timothy King, M.D., Ph.D., director of research for the Division of Plastic Surgery and associate director of the UAB Plastic Surgery Residency Program, recently served as co-chair of the Wound Healing Society’s 31st Annual Meeting program last month in San Antonio, Texas.
The meeting, held May 7-10 in conjunction with the semiannual Symposium on Advanced Wound Care, featured a variety of talks and research presentations from scientists and wound care specialists from all over the world.
Marc Passman, M.D., professor of vascular surgery and endovascular therapy at UAB, presented as part of the SAWC program on the second day of the conference.
In his point-counter-point-style session – “Healing Venous Leg Ulcers: Which is More Important, Wound Management/Compression, or Fixing the Veins?” – Passman debated the arguments and evidence surrounding the topic of venous intervention with Oregon Health and Science University’s Robert McLafferty, M.D., MBA.
On the third day of the WHS program, King and UAB plastic surgery researcher Liz Quintero presented their research, “Notch Activation Stimulates Wound Healing,” during a rapid-fire poster talk session that King also helped moderate.
Next year’s annual meeting of the WHS, as well as SAWC Spring, will be held May 13-17, 2020, in San Diego, California.
