More than 1,200 interns, residents and fellows train in every medical specialty at UAB in Birmingham, at our regional campuses in Montgomery, Huntsville and Tuscaloosa, and in our program in Selma.

This year, the UAB Plastic Surgery Residency Program welcomes Grant Bond, M.D., Jeremy Bosworth, M.D., and Sharon Lawson, M.D. Bond joins the program after completing his general surgery training at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center, while Bosworth and Lawson come to UAB after finishing their general surgery residencies at Nassau University Medical Center and the University of Texas Health Science Center, respectively.

Outgoing residents David Mateo de Acosta Andino, M.D., and Ashley Thorburn, M.D., are now practicing plastic surgeons after graduating from the program this year. Mateo de Acosta Andino left UAB for McAllen, Texas, to join the DHR Health Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery Institute, and Thorburn now serves as a plastic surgeon while on active duty at Travis Air Force Base in Fairfield, California.
