Last week, the Association for Academic Surgery named Assistant Professor Brenessa Lindeman, M.D., MEHP, the 2020 Royal Australasian College of Surgeons International Visiting Professor. As the recipient of next year’s professorship, she will receive funding to attend the RACS Annual Scientific Congress in Melbourne, Australia, May 11-15, 2020.

Lindeman is an endocrine surgeon in the Division of Surgical Oncology, an associate director of the UAB General Surgery Residency Program and the Department of Surgery’s first-ever wellness champion. In accepting this award, Lindeman will join the AAS and RACS 2020 Leadership Exchange, through which she will also host another visiting professor from the Younger Fellows Committee of the RACS at next year’s Academic Surgical Congress in February.

Dr. Colin Martin

Lindeman is the second consecutive winner of the RACS International Visiting Professorship from the UAB Department of Surgery, following the Division of Pediatric Surgery’s Colin Martin, M.D., who served as this year’s visiting professor.

The AAS/RACS International Visiting Professorship is designed to encourage communication and collaboration between members of the AAS and RACS through the exchange of ideas about the clinical, scientific and policy aspects of surgery.
