UAB Department of Surgery Professor Robert Cannon, M.D., FACS has been appointed to the Association for Academic Surgery (AAS) Publications Committee as a member.
Cannon’s appointment will last two years, ending with the 2022 Academic Surgical Conference (ASC).
The mission of the AAS is “to inspire and develop young academic surgeons.” They do so through a resource-rich platform with several publications, including a blog, journals, magazines, podcast and more. Additionally, they host several meetings and events throughout the year, including the ASC.
As a member of the AAS Publications Committee, Dr. Cannon’s primary responsibility will consist reviewing manuscripts submitted bi-annually in association with the AAS. The expectation for members is that they review these manuscripts as if they were an author and provide constructive feedback to the authors.
Cannon is looking forward to supporting the mission of the AAS by providing peer-review and editorial support to other members.
“It is truly an honor to be appointed to this position,” said Cannon. “The AAS has always been a leader in inspiring young surgeons, and I am glad to represent the UAB Department of Surgery in these national efforts.”
