Despite the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and limitations on travel, we would like to plan for the 2020-2021 academic year and proceed with our Junior Faculty Exchange Program selection.

In partnership with the University of California-Davis (UC Davis), the University of Florida (UF), the University of Michigan (UM), the UAB Department of Surgery will continue our Junior Faculty Exchange Program.

This program involves a reciprocal exchange of Assistant Professor-level faculty from UC-Davis, UF, and UM with our department. A typical visit lasts two or three days, and the visiting faculty member usually gives a lecture to students and residents, as well as a section/division-level lecture. Some institutions have used the visit for grand rounds.

Self-nominations are open for a 2021 UAB representative for each institution. In return, we will host a junior faculty from each those three institutions in the 2020-2021 academic year. If you would like to be considered for the program at any of the three partner institutions, please email Adam W. Beck, MD, FACS your current CV, and a brief description of what you would like to accomplish with your trip. Please specify which institution(s) you are interested in visiting.

A committee of department leadership will select the 2021 UAB representative, who will be notified shortly after selection. A formal announcement will be made with each named representative and the partner institution representative, once decided.
