CameraDuring this unprecedented time in history, health care workers are documenting their experience with COVID-19 through images, whether that be a glance into the health care setting, a new innovative idea or an honest moment.

The life of these images does not have to be confined to a camera roll. As UAB front line employees continue to battle this pandemic, the Department of Surgery would like to share a few ways that COVID-19 images and videos can live on in legacy and be displayed for others to learn, appreciate and be inspired.

Below are three places that you can submit your photos, or other visual documentation, to be shared with the public. We hope that you choose to participate in preserving this time in our nation’s history.

1. Department of Surgery Communications

Send in any photos or videos to surgcomm@uabmc.edu to be featured in an article on the UAB Department of Surgery website, in the Surgery News newsletter and/or department social media channels.

2. UAB Medicine

Submit your photos, videos, and/or shout-outs to UAB Medicine to share with all other #uabmedicineheroes. Include a printed sign showing this hash tag if you can. UAB Medicine plans to start a new weekly email featuring submissions received. You can submit your photo, video or shout-out here.

3. UAB School of Medicine Wellness Challenge

Share the ways that you have stayed well during this time of uncertainty and change with UAB Medicine social media. You can reply to this UAB School of Medicine tweet or Facebook post with your photo or video showing how you stay active, eat well or boost your mood.

*Remember, all photos and videos must remain in compliance with HIPAA regulations and UAB photography policies. Protected health information (PHI) should never be photographed, video recorded or shared on social media.
