Drs. Sutzko and BeckAssistant Professor and Associate Program Director of the Vascular Surgery Integrated Residency Danielle Sutzko, M.D., M.S., and Associate Professor and Director of the Division of Vascular Surgery and Endovascular Therapy Adam Beck, M.D., published their review “Big Data in Vascular Surgery: Registries, International Collaboration and Future Directions” in the Journal of Internal Medicine.

According to the review, big data “typically refers to large databases that can be used to investigate common or rare disease processes or outcomes, describe variation in clinical practices across and between different specialties at various practice location, while allowing important information about trends over time.” The review defines big data in the realm of vascular surgery- listing main vascular surgery registries- and ultimately calls for industry-wide expansion, adoption and acceptance of these sources of big data.

Sutzko was listed as a first author and shared more about how the study will impact the future practices and procedures of vascular surgery.

“This review highlights how vascular surgeons have leveraged big data to help improve quality of care for vascular patients around the world,” said Sutzko. “These registries provide important insight into the variation in care across many countries that can be eliminated in hopes of providing effective and efficient vascular care.”

The Journal of Internal Medicine was established in 1863 and is listed among the top journals in the General & Internal Medicine category. Read the latest publication of the journal here.
