More than 1,200 interns, residents and fellows train in every medical specialty at the University of Alabama at Birmingham and at regional campuses in Montgomery, Huntsville, Tuscaloosa and Selma. In an ongoing series, the UAB Department of Surgery will feature incoming and outgoing trainees for all UAB Surgery programs. This week, learn about the Pediatric Surgery Fellowship and the Pediatric Endoscopic Surgery Fellowship.
The ACGME-accredited Pediatric Surgery Fellowship Program is sponsored by the Pediatric Surgery Services at Children's of Alabama, with one resident admitted yearly for the two-year program. UAB General Surgery residents and medical students rotate with the Pediatric Surgery fellows on one of the busiest clinical services in the UAB system. This year, the program welcomes one incoming fellow, Natalie O’Neill, M.D., and says goodbye to Stewart Carter, M.D.
Trainees in the Pediatric Endoscopic Surgery Fellowship Program also experience the high-functioning environment of UAB Medicine and Children’s of Alabama. The goal of the program is to teach and mentor skilled and compassionate pediatric endoscopic surgeons and to mold future leaders in pediatric endoscopic surgery. This year, the program welcomes Bradley Wallace, M.D. and says goodbye to Ilan Maizlin, M.D., MSPH.
