Jul. 1, 2020, the UAB Department of Surgery will welcome Saulat Sajjad Sheikh, M.B.B.S., as an assistant professor in the Division of Transplantation.
Sheikh attended medical school at the Aga Khan University in Karachi, Pakistan where she was conferred the "Best Graduate" award. She subsequently completed her General Surgery Residency at York Hospital, York, Pennsylvania. Sheikh graduated from the department’s Abdominal Transplantation and Hepatobiliary Surgery Fellowship in 2020.
Her areas of interest include liver transplantation, kidney transplantation, pediatric transplantation, live donor liver transplant, live donor kidney transplant and hepatobiliary surgery. Sheikh is a member of several professional societies, including: the American College of Surgeons, American Society of Transplant Surgeons and Association of Academic Surgery.
Sheikh is thrilled to join the department in the Division of Transplantation.
“My time with the department has been a wonderful experience, and it is such an honor to now work alongside so many great surgeon-scientists in the field of transplantation.” said Sheikh. “I look forward to helping the division lead the way in improving patient experience and furthering our knowledge of transplantation.”
Abdominal Transplant Fellowship Director Douglas Anderson, M.D., M.S., looks forward to all that Sheikh brings to her faculty appointment.
“Our program was delighted when Dr. Sheikh came to UAB for her transplant surgery fellowship, and she has performed outstandingly well. During her fellowship, she was nominated and selected to join Alpha Omega Alpha, which is a testament to her empathy and dedication as a provider. I am certain that she will make a wonderful addition to our faculty,” said Anderson.
