General surgery research resident Raoud Marayati, M.D., won the second place award for her oral presentation at the virtual UAB Graduate Biomedical Sciences/Joint Health Sciences 2020 Annual Research Symposium.
Marayati, a PhD candidate in the Cancer Biology theme, gave an oral presentation titled "PIM kinases mediate resistance to cisplatin chemotherapy in hepatoblastoma”. Talks were rated by a judging committee and the awards were chosen from this year's 45 talks presented across seven Graduate Biomedical Sciences themes.
In addition to the oral presentation of abstracts, the symposium provided opportunities for new students to connect with rotation labs through a pre-recorded video poster session as well as interactive networking breakout sessions during the event.
