Assistant Professor in the Division of Surgical Oncology J. Bart Rose, MD, MAS, FACS, has been named a fellow of the American College of Surgeons (ACS). Rose also serves as Director of the UAB Pancreatobiliary Disease Center.
Members of the ACS are referred to as "Fellows." Rose may now use the letters “FACS (Fellow, American College of Surgeons)” after his name as a designation that his education and training, professional qualifications, surgical competence, and ethical conduct have passed a rigorous evaluation, and have been found to be consistent with the high standards established and demanded by the College.
Rose joined UAB in 2017 and has been engaged in scientific research for seventeen years. He has contributed to scientific knowledge in the fields of molecular genetics, enzymology, oncologic biomarkers, and clinical outcomes. His focus since entering the field of surgery has been on biomarker research and mechanisms of cancer development in liver, pancreas, and bile duct cancers (specifically neuroendocrine tumors). Rose is honored by the distinction.
“This is a great honor, and I am proud to now hold the distinction as a fellow of the ACS, joining several of my talented and accomplished colleagues,” said Dr. Rose. “It is wonderful to represent the Department of Surgery on a national level.”
The American College of Surgeons (ACS) is a scientific and educational association of surgeons that was founded in 1913 to improve the quality of care for the surgical patient by setting high standards for surgical education and practice. From 2012 to 2013, the College observed a year-long commemoration of its Centennial, "100 Years of Inspiring Quality."
