Division of Pediatric Surgery Assistant Professor Colin Martin, M.D., FACS, has been selected for membership into the Surgical Biology Club II (SBCII).
SBCII was established in 1959 to provide a forum for a small group of surgeons to present works in progress. Through vigorous discussions, club members would receive critical feedback on their research aimed at applying advances in biology to surgical problems.
The group has grown to over 200 members, with several individuals representing the UAB Department of Surgery, such as Chair of the Department of Surgery Herbert Chen, M.D., FACS, serving as secretary from 2011-2017 and Professor George Yang, M.D., Ph.D., serving as current secretary.
Martin was selected for membership by the Board of Directors, which considers the applicant’s contributions to academic surgery including: publications, grant funding, leadership positions, as well as membership and leadership in surgical societies. Once selected, new members are required to give a scientific presentation at the meeting of the club that takes place during American College of Surgeons Clinical Congress, which will constitute their induction into the society.
