2020 marks the 27th year that UAB, and the Department of Surgery, has supported the Marine Corps Toys for Tots program.

The basic mission of the Marine Toys for Tots Program is to collect new unwrapped toys and distribute those toys to less fortunate children during the holidays. According to UAB IT, who organizes the UAB drive, the campus gives one of the largest contributions to Toys for Tots in the Birmingham/Jefferson County area.

Each division within the department participates, and the friendly competition helps to drive up donations from the department as a whole. This year, the generosity of faculty, staff, trainees and students across UAB was evident when all donations were gathered for the final pick up.

“Thank you to all who have taken the time to collect and donate to the UAB Toy Drive this year,” said Chair of the Department of Surgery Herbert Chen, M.D. “This year especially, when many are struggling, it is an honor to see so many individuals in our department stepping in to bring joy to children across the US.”
