Division of Transplantation Assistant Professor Rhiannon Deierhoi Reed, DrPH, MPH, has been awarded a $25,000 UAB Palliative Research Enhancement Project (PREP) grant.
The Center for Palliative and Supportive Care (CPSC) recently completed its sixth annual PREP grant application cycle, and announced Reed as an awardee as well as Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Neurobiology Clinical Psychologist and Assistant Professor Caitlin Clevenger. As PREP awardees, both Reed and Clevenger will receive $25,000 each to fund their research over the next 12 months.
The CPSC encourages investigators to pursue palliative care research through the PREP, whose mission is to fund innovative research conducted by our UAB community investigators to enhance the prospects for external funding opportunities and contribute to the palliative and supportive care evidence base.
Reed’s PREP project is entitled “Assessing Provider, Patient, and Caregiver Preferences for Palliative and End-of-Life Care in Kidney Transplantation.”
“While there are options for palliative and end-of-life care for those with end-stage kidney disease, many patients do not know about or access these services,” said Reed. “ The goal of our study is to assess whether there is a role for transplant providers to communicate these options to patients and their caregivers.”
