Match Week is an exciting week that leads up to Match Day, which is a day when residents across the nation find out which residency programs they have "matched" into and where they will be for the next three-seven years of their career.

In the past, Match Day at UAB has been celebrated with a large ceremony, where matching UAB School of Medicine (SOM) students and their families will open their letter, announcing their residency location, at 11 a.m. This year, the ceremony will be virtual, but students will all still find out their residency location at 11 a.m. via email. A virtual live stream for the UAB SOM Match Day will begin at 10:45 a.m. on Mar. 19, and viewers can tune in to the live stream here.

To celebrate, the UAB Department of Surgery wanted to look back at a few of our own general surgery residents' memories of the momentous Match Day.
