The Association for Academic Surgery appointed Britney Corey, M.D., FACS, General Surgery Residency program director, and Robert Cannon, M.D., Liver Transplant Program surgical director, to the national Program Committee.
Corey and Cannon will serve a two-year term–ending in 2023–alongside 10 other members and the chair. They will play an instrumental role in selecting abstracts and manuscripts for the 2022 and 2023 Academic Surgical Congress (ASC), an annual meeting of surgeons from the AAS and the Society of University Surgeons.
AAS Program Committee members typically read and score between 100 and 150 abstracts submitted for the ASC. In addition to selecting abstracts for the meeting, committee members will review between 10 and 20 manuscripts over a one-year period.
Corey and Cannon join their colleague Karin Hardiman, M.D., Ph.D., associate professor, as well as Panayotis Vardas, M.D., assistant professor, who have been a committee members since 2020, and will serve until 2022.
“Both Dr. Cannon and I are looking forward to supporting the AAS and the ASC by selecting a robust pool of abstracts and manuscripts,” said Corey. “Each year, academic surgeons’ body of research expands and improves, and it’s an honor to review.”
