Bin Ren, M.D., Ph.D., FAHA, has been named the William D. Jordan, Jr. M.D., Endowed Professor in Vascular Sciences.
Jordan was appointed chief of vascular surgery at UAB in 1996 and served as a professor of surgery and chief of the Division of Vascular Surgery and Endovascular Therapy until 2016.
As the founder of the UAB Vascular Surgery Fellowship program and the UAB Integrated Vascular Surgery Residency, Jordan worked tirelessly to build a clinical practice and training program.
“I am honored to carry on the legacy of Dr. Jordan and his work with the division. I enjoy excellent collaborative and supportive environment here at the UAB. I truly appreciate my family, colleagues, trainees. and mentors for their help and support, and will dedicate myself to research and education in biomedical sciences at the UAB, ” said Ren.
The new professorship includes funding that can be used to support the division’s research mission, including efforts in the Ren Lab, where Ren and his team are studying molecular and vascular pathobiology in the context of ischemic heart and vascular diseases as well as cancers.
“Dr. Ren and his lab are truly making strides in vascular biology research,” said Adam Beck, M.D., director of the Division of Vascular Surgery and Endovascular Therapy. “He is a widely-respected scientist, and we are glad that Dr. Ren calls UAB Surgery home.”
