The department is pleased to welcome Assistant Professor Zain Hashmi, M.D., and Instructor, Fellow Sasha Still, M.D., to its faculty.
Hashmi joins the Division of Trauma and Acute Care Surgery. He received his medical degree at the Aga Khan University Medical College in Pakistan after which he completed general surgery residency at the Sinai Hospital of Baltimore and trauma/surgical critical care fellowship at UAB.
Hashmi also completed trauma and surgical research fellowships at the Center for Surgical Trials and Outcomes Research, Johns Hopkins School of Medicine and at the Center for Surgery and Public Health, Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Harvard Medical School and the Harvard T. H. Chan School of Public Health.
Hashmi’s clinical interests include trauma resuscitation and critical care. His research focuses on trauma systems development, quality improvement and application of quantitative methods for trauma benchmarking.
Still joins the Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery at UAB. She obtained her medical degree from the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, Texas then went on to complete her general surgery training at Baylor University Medical Center.
Still is a member of the Society of Thoracic Surgeons, Southern Thoracic Surgical Association, and Women in Thoracic Surgery. She is the first advanced aortic surgery fellow of the Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery.
Still’s areas of interest include adult cardiac surgery, aortic surgery, aortic valve surgery, coronary artery bypass grafting, and outcomes research.
