The Division of Gastrointestinal Surgery is pleased to announce their colorectal fellowship match with S. Thomas Kang, M.D.

Kang is currently a chief resident at TriHealth Good Samaritan Hospital in Cincinnati, OH. He received his medical degree from Creighton University School of Medicine. Kang is thrilled to join the UAB Surgery family.

“I would say that what drew me to UAB was most emphatically the faculty. It was a challenge to interview via Zoom because the atmosphere from an in-person encounter is unfortunately lost,” said Kang.

“It was a moment in my life where I had to rely heavily on my intuition, and the faculty and supporting staff provided this atmosphere that was palpable even through a computer screen. I ranked the program first, and I am grateful to have the opportunity to train with a group of attendings who seem so invested in surgical education.”

Kang and his wife, Julie, who is an internal medicine physician, have two children together: a two-and-a-half-year-old, Oliver, and a newborn, Gabriel, as well as terrier mix Zooey. In his spare time, Kang enjoys trying new places to eat and staying active– whether that be weight lifting, running, or even just vacuuming the house.
