Dr. Cozette KillianCozette Killian, M.D., MPH, general surgery research resident and member of Jayme Locke’s, M.D., MPH, UAB TEAM Lab, recently had an abstract accepted for oral presentation at the Young Investigator’s Forum at the Controversies in Transplantation meeting in Breckinridge, CO in March.

Killian’s abstract entitled “Kidney Allocation System Promotes Racial Equality NOT Equity in Access to Deceased Donor Kidney Transplantation” was chosen from a large number of highly qualified abstracts and the conference notes that Killian should be congratulated for her research effort and submission.

Killian will receive airfare, travel and accommodations for the Young Investigator’s Forum and Controversies in Transplantation meeting.  The forum begins on March 3 while the larger meeting occurs March 4-6.

Killian will have 10 minutes to present followed by five minutes of discussion. In addition to her presentation, there will be two debates that she will prepare for. Killian looks forward to presenting.

“I am grateful for the opportunity to represent the department and the Division of Transplantation, and for the mentorship that made this work possible,” said Killian. “I’m hopeful our work will further the discussion regarding the progress that still needs to be made to achieve racial equity in our organ allocation practices.”
