Advanced Aortic & Endovascular Surgery Fellow Sasha Still, M.D., received the Carolyn E. Reed Traveling Fellowship Award from the Thoracic Surgery Foundation.

The award was given to Still for her project entitled "A Focused Immersion in Aortic Valve and Root Repair Techniques in France and Germany.” The project outlines techniques and other learnings that Still would be exposed to through an observership in the countries.

The award comes with an $8,500 stipend, funding that observership to travel to Paris, France to study with Emmanuel Lansac, M.D., Ph.D., and Homburg, Germany to study with Hans-Joachim Schäfers, M.D. According to Still, both of these surgeons have some of the largest series and best-reported outcomes on the topic.

“I look forward to my trip and representing UAB Surgery internationally,” said Still. “Observing these surgeons is an incredible opportunity to learn and bring my findings back here to UAB.”
