Division of Plastic Surgery Associate Professor René Myers, M.D., has been elected to the American Association of Plastic Surgeons (AAPS).

Membership in the association is considered a high honor in the plastic surgery community. In the past, just a small handful of faculty members from UAB have had the distinction to call themselves members of the AAPS, including Jorge de la Torre, M.D., Jobe Fix, M.D., and Luis Vasconez, M.D., among others.

Myers joined the UAB Division of Plastic Surgery in August 2015. A researcher and an academic leader, he has had his work presented at national and international plastic surgery conferences and has published multiple peer-reviewed articles and book chapters about plastic surgery and craniofacial surgery.

Myers has traveled internationally to perform overseas cleft and craniofacial work and looks forward to continuing these trips. In addition to the AAPS, he is a member of multiple plastic surgery societies including The American Society of Plastic Surgery, The American Cleft Palate-Craniofacial Association, The American Society of Craniofacial Surgeons, The American Society of Maxillofacial Surgeons, and The American Association of Pediatric Plastic Surgeons.

As a member, Myers will support the AAPS in their efforts to advance the science and art of plastic surgery through surgical education, research, scientific presentations, and professional interaction.

The association conducts an annual scientific program concerning topics of interest to plastic surgeons. Myers will attend the annual meeting in San Diego, CA this April.
