Department of Surgery Assistant Professor and Co-Director of the UAB Women in Surgery Kristy Broman, M.D., MPH, has secured an American College of Surgeons’ (ACS) Faculty Research Fellowship.
The two-year, $80,000 fellowship will fund Broman’s surgical oncology research, specifically her project "Quality of Care and Patient Preferences for Cancer Surgery at Hub versus Affiliate Sites within Health Systems.”
The fellowship is funded through the generosity of ACS fellows, chapters, and friends of the college, with early-career surgeons entering academic careers in surgery or a surgical specialty in mind. The fellowship assists surgeons in the establishment of their research program–under mentorship–with the goal of transitioning to becoming an independent investigator.
A surgeon-scientist, Broman is a member of the UAB Institute for Cancer Outcomes and Survivorship. There she conducts health services and outcomes research, emphasizing implementation strategies for delivery of high-quality care across the cancer care continuum.
Broman is one of only four awardees selected in the nation and is delighted to have secured the fellowship.
“It truly is an honor to have my surgical oncology research funded for the next two years by the American College of Surgeons,” said Broman. “I look forward to producing high-quality oncology research, particularly in the realm of cancer care delivery, during the term of the fellowship.”
