Several Department of Surgery faculty have been named new members of the Society for University Surgeons (SUS). The members include:
As a new-member inductees, a presentation of each faculty’s academic work at the annual Academic Surgical Congress (ASC) is required within the next three years to fully-activate their SUS memberships.
In addition, as a benefit of new membership with the SUS, each faculty member is invited to participate in the 2023 SUS Mid-Career Academic Surgery Professional Development Course that takes place just before the 2023 ASC.
Cannon, Gelbard, Patterson, and Rose are looking forward to representing UAB Surgery on this national level.
“It’s an honor to join this prestigious society,” said Cannon. “This organization is a wonderful opportunity to promote scholarship and network with my colleagues across the nation. I look forward to future meetings and conferences with the SUS.”
In addition to general membership, Gelbard will serve as the UAB Institutional Representative for the SUS. If UAB Surgery faculty have any interest in membership or attending meetings, they are encourage to connect with Gelbard via email.
The Society of University Surgeons was established in 1938 as a surgical society whose members had completed a rigorous training program and held a faculty position at a United States medical school. Over the years, the SUS has continually grown in size and stature, and is now recognized as the world’s premier organization dedicated to the advancement of the surgical sciences.
