The UAB Department of Surgery is prioritizing faculty and trainee development by hosting a leadership retreat April 22 as well as an education retreat on November 18.
The leadership retreat on April 22 from 3-5 p.m. is designed to support and develop leaders within the department. Guest speakers include Stanford Medicine Professor of Surgery and Chair of the Department of Surgery at Stanford University Mary Hawn, M.D., as well as President and Co-Founder at the Academy for Surgical Coaching Caprice Greenberg, M.D.
A hybrid format, the leadership retreat will bring department leaders together to learn new strategies, methods, and ideas alongside one another.
The education retreat will be on November 18 from 1-5:30 p.m. at Pursell Farms, which is a charming venue in Fayetteville, Alabama. The retreat will be an interactive session focusing on feedback training and medical student education.
The education retreat will be led by University of Utah Health Professor of Vascular Surgery, Program Director for the Vascular Surgery Fellowship and Vice Chair of Education for the Department of Surgery Brigitte Smith, M.D. UAB Surgery speakers include Britney Corey, M.D., Jessica Fazendin, M.D., and Brenessa Lindeman, M.D.
