Each year, the department hosts a Resident Research Day, a scientific forum that gives residents from across the department the opportunity to present their own research projects and discuss their topics with an audience.

Presentation topics ranged from accelerating pancreatic cancer progression to kidney transplantation to health literacy. Sundeep Keswani, M.D., Texas Children’s Hospital chief of pediatric surgery, served as judge after presenting “Minimally Invasive Fetal Surgery: Reaching the Next Frontier” at UAB Surgery Grand Rounds that morning and judged the presentations.

In total, residents presented 29 research projects. Below are the selected winners of the 2022 event.
