The UAB Department of Surgery Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Committee is proud to announce its membership into the Latino Surgical Society (LSS).
According to LSS, the society was established to cultivate, nurture, and support the advancement of Latino surgeons. The primary objective of LSS is to establish programs to improve networking and professional development among Latino surgeons in both clinical community and academic settings. Also, LSS encourages and assists the study of diseases of importance to the Latino community.
The purpose of the UAB Surgery DEI Committee is to understand, promote, and respect diverse backgrounds, cultures, attitudes, and experiences within the department to drive excellence in clinical care, research and surgical education.
Department of Surgery Associate Professor and Vice Chair of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Colin Martin, M.D., FACS, is pleased to see the DEI Committee join this well-respected and prominent society.
“The mission of our DEI Committee is closely aligned with the purpose of the Latino Surgical Society, and we are looking forward to supporting the society in our institutional membership,” said Martin.
