Incoming Endocrine Surgery Fellow Jessica Li McMullin, M.D., and UAB General Surgery Resident Rongzhi Wang, M.D., were named International Association of Endocrine Surgeons (IAES) 2022 Travelers.
McMullin and Wang’s abstracts were selected from 154 submitted abstracts for a podium presentation by the IAES Program Committee. As a traveler, the IAES will cover McMullin and Wang’s travel expenses with a $1,000 stipend for them to present their research at the International Surgical Week in Vienna, Austria in August 2022.
Both McMullin and Wang will also be proposed for associate membership in the IAES, which they can eventually convert to an active membership once they establishes surgical practices. Wang is pleased to represent the UAB General Surgery Residency program on this international stage.
“I’m grateful that my dedicated research time as a resident has opened opportunities to present my endocrine surgery research to an international audience,” said Wang. “I am thankful for my mentors within the UAB Department of Surgery and look forward to presenting our research.”
The IAES was founded in San Francisco in 1979 by a group of endocrine surgeons with the purpose to focus the activities of general surgeons interested in the endocrine system into a special group within the Société Internationale de Chirurgie (SIC/ISS). It aims to provide a forum for the exchange of views of those who are interested in endocrine surgery.
