UAB General Surgery Resident Clara Nicolas Martinez, M.D., Ph.D., M.S., was selected for the University of Washington Division of Pediatric Surgery and Seattle Children’s Visiting Elective Program in Pediatric Surgery for underrepresented minority residents.
Along with the program selection comes an award stipend for $2,500. Nicolas Martinez will participate in this particular rotation beginning in October 2022.
According to Seattle Children’s, residents will spend four weeks on the pediatric surgery team at Seattle Children's Hospital as an acting fellow.
As part of the program, Nicolas Martinez will also be paired with a faculty mentor who represents similar interests of hers and is also a member of the Residency Diversity Committee. She is looking forward to the additional experience she will gain through the program.
“I am incredibly grateful for this opportunity to rotate at such a high-volume academic center,” said Nicolas Martinez. “I have thoroughly enjoyed my rotations at Children’s of Alabama and am excited to better understand how other programs manage the same pathology. I look forward to representing UAB Surgery in Seattle this fall.”
