UAB Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery Assistant Professor Kyle Eudailey, M.D. was recently featured on UAB MedCast to discuss optimal management and treatment for thoracic aortic aneurysms.

Aortic aneurysms are the enlargement of the aorta that carries blood from the heart to the body and pose an increased risk for rupture and tears.

To provide early intervention and treatment, Eudailey recommends screenings such as computed tomography (CT) or magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) for patients with a known aneurysm, since aortic aneurysms can often be asymptomatic.

When considering treatment plans, providers weigh patient-specific risk factors associated with an intervention. Eudailey explains that not every patient with a thoracic aneurysm will need surgery, based on surveillance methods and reliable measurement screenings.
