UAB Department of Surgery Assistant Professor Andrea Gillis, M.D., was recently awarded the Dr. Sharon Spencer Legacy Award for Outstanding Service by the Cancer Awareness Network at their 25th-anniversary celebration.

"This award means so very much to me," says Gillis. "Being recognized by such a phenomenal organization that does so much for cancer patients in the Birmingham area is an honor."
Gillis served as the UAB AAES Endocrine Surgery Fellow for the 2021-2022 academic year.
She received her medical degree from Columbia University and completed her residency at Albany Medical College in Albany, NY.

The Cancer Awareness Network seeks to inform, educate, motivate, and enlighten underserved individuals of all ages who have been diagnosed with cancer. The organization collaborates closely with Birmingham-area oncologists to provide quarterly informational seminars for patients undergoing treatment and their families.
