UAB Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery Professor James F. George, Ph.D., has been chosen to serve as the Department of Surgery's Vice Chair of Basic Research.
George is a professor of surgery for the Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery. He is a molecular and cellular biologist who has worked in the field of heart failure and transplantation for more than 20 years. George is actively involved in researching the role of inflammation in heart failure, kidney injury, and transplant rejection by single cell analysis using a variety of techniques including spatial and single cell transcriptomics.
He will succeed Dr. James Bibb, who is now serving as the Chair of the Department of Translational Neuroscience at the University of Arizona’s College of Medicine in Phoenix.
