UAB Division of Breast & Endocrine Surgery Assistant Professor and Medical Student Surgery Clerkship Director Jessica Fazendin, M.D., FACS, was a recent recipient of the 2022 Argus Award for Best Clinical Educator, Birmingham Campus, alongside General Internal Medicine Professor Lisa Willett, M.D.

Created in 1996, the Argus Awards allows medical students to honor faculty members for their leadership and service. Students voted submitted their votes for each category through course evaluations.

“It’s an honor to be nominated by the students at UAB. We are proud to have students rotate with us on surgery, whether or not they pursue this career. We simply hope to inspire them to take excellent care of their patients and their colleagues” says Dr. Fazendin.

Dr. Fazendin received her medical degree from the Medical College of Wisconsin and completed a general surgery residency at Hahnemann University Hospital/Drexel University College of Medicine. She also completed a fellowship in endocrine surgery at UAB.

She is dedicated to surgical education and also serves as a Lead Mentor for the Heersink SOM Kirklin Learning Community. She treats patients both at UAB and the BVAMC, and has clinical interests in thyroid, parathyroid and adrenal diseases.
